David James Murphy

David James Murphy is an Irish singer-songwriter from Cork. He defines his music as stemming primarily from folk but draws inspiration from a wide variety of musical styles. He draws his inspiration from current artists such as Dermot Kennedy, Hozier, Glen Hansard, Damien Rice and Lisa Hannigan. David started music at the age of 18 and tested his talent by playing in the streets of Cork before moving to the stage of various pubs for a few years. It was his arrival in Paris that propelled him into this still unknown world which was that of writing and composition. A collective of Parisian songwriters took him under their wing and took him to play in more than a dozen European cities. It was then a one-year stay in Madrid that marked his debut in writing. Since moving to Paris, David has appeared on a major French television channel and has opened for several very promising French artists. He has also had the opportunity to set foot on the mythical Casino de Paris stage by participating in the opening act of his musical idol and Irish colleague Glen Hansard, in April 2019. A powerful hoarse voice with a scratchy timbre which is contrasted by a taste for acoustic sounds. His first EP “The adventure begins” was released in September 2019. Progress was halted weeks after a move back to Cork in 2020.Emerging from the pandemic he is now working with Ryan Parsons on the “Bermuda County Council” project as well as collaborating with him on a new EP to be released in 2022
